Chapter 4, Basics of Good Support
- Support Points are examples, facts or evidence that show, explain or prove your main point.
- Three basics of support are:
i. Relates to the main point
ii. Uses examples, facts and observations that will make sense to my readers.
iii. It is detailed and specific
iv. Example on page 47-8
- Organization—Five paragraphs at least…
- Story “arc” v. Order of importance

- Basics of a good story
i. It reveals something of importance to you.
ii. It includes all the major events
iii. It brings the story to life with details
iv. It presents them in a clear order
- Narration
i. Support consist of the major events you include (primary support) and the details about the events (secondary support)
ii. Events should illustrate the main point or thesis of your essay.
1. What is your topic?
2. What is your main point about that topic?
3. What events help make your main point?
4. What details make the event realistic and specific. Give AT LEAST one or two details about each event.
